CARLOTTA (beech). Acrylic paint, oil and wax. (24 cm wide and 36 cm high).
The name Carlotta is of Italian origin. It means the energy to look at life with wide-eyed wonder. There is not just one eye I see on this vessel but two. One is the elliptical opening with a thin blue rim and the other is the knot in the bottom part of her wall. Carlotta is probably the tallest vessel I have turned so far. The wood comes from the forrest which is part of the botanical garden in Tharandt (Germany). The tree fell about 2 years ago and I have already used it`s wood last year and I was bit scared that this year the wood would be already rotten or way too damaged for wood turning. Fortunately only small part of the tree which was close to the cut made last year was bad. Further the wood was beautiful and undamaged with some parts spalted.

Jméno Carlotta je italského původu a vyjadřuje energii dívat se na život s úžasem doširoka otevřených očí. Na této nádobě vidím hned dvě oči. Jedno v jejím eliptickém ústí a druhé v suku ve spodní části nádoby. Carlotta je pravděpodobně nejvyšší nádobou, kterou jsem doposud vysoustružil. Tohle nádherné dřevo pochází z lesa, který je součástí botanické zahrady v německém městě Tharand. Už v minulém roce jsem s tímto dřevem pracoval a když jsem se ke stromu letos vrátil měl jsem strach, že už bude dřevo shnilé a zničené a tedy nevhodné pro prácí. K mému údivu byla poničená jen malá část u řezu, který jsem tam minulý rok nechal. Dále bylo dřevo nádherné.
